The Outside Project is an LGBTIQ+ Community Shelter, Centre and Domestic Abuse Refuge in response to those within the LGBTIQ+ community who feel endangered, who are homeless, ‘hidden’ homeless and feel that they are on the outside of services due to historical and present prejudice in society and in their homes. It is an independent, grassroots project led by queer ex-homeless, homelessness professionals, community & activists.
The items listed here are those currently needed by The Outside Project. When you purchase a donation through this store, your exact purchased item is sent directly to them. They can then distribute or use the donated items as required, making a real, tangible difference to someone’s life. It also means that The Outside Project don’t have to spend money donations on items, and can instead use it for those things only money can buy.
There is no minimum order size, and all items include free delivery.
The Outside Project don’t pay for their donation shop, and Give Today use just £0.50 of the item prices below to cover transaction costs and price fluctuations from suppliers. Give Today do not profit from the sale of any items on the website.
The Outside Project at work:
The Outside Project is an LGBTIQ+ Community Shelter, Centre and Domestic Abuse Refuge. Their Shelter is an identity responsive service for the LGBTIQ+ Community in London. It’s not like in the films – you don’t need to pay or queue up each night to get in. Instead, The Outside Project have security on the door and a set guest list each night. Everyone has a proper bed and their own room. There are also support workers on site 24hrs a day and yes – the whole team is LGBTIQ+. In addition to the Shelter, The Outside Project also run a Domestic Abuse Refuge. This Refuge is for LGBTIQ+ people who are escaping domestic abuse. This could be from a partner or a family member. They could be physically, verbally or emotionally abusive.
The Outside Project Community Centre opened in April 2019 in the former Clerkenwell Fire Station, Central London. Alongside the Outside Projects weekly social, support and recovery groups, the Community Centre quickly became a busy creative and meeting space home to many activist, community groups and creative projects.
