Give Today. Help Tomorrow.
Donate exactly what is needed.
The First Step offer emotional and practical support either by telephone, face to face or in the community for men, women and families going through domestic abuse situations.
Support can include advice and guidance on legal options, housing, safety planning, one to one sessions tailored to meet needs or talking to explore options. They also offer group support, The Freedom Programme and the Recovery Toolkit and other therapeutic groups which have included art, health and wellbeing, cooking, computers and family days out.
The items listed here are those currently needed by The First Step. When you purchase a donation through this store, your exact purchased item is sent directly to them. They can then distribute or use the donated items as required, making a real, tangible difference to someone’s life. It also means that The First Step don’t have to spend money donations on items, and can instead use it for those things only money can buy.
There is no minimum order size, and all items include free delivery.
The First Step don’t pay for their shop, and Give Today use just £0.50 of the item prices below to cover transaction costs and price fluctuations from suppliers. Give Today do not profit from the sale of any items on the website.
The First Step at work:
The First Step (previously KDVSS – Knowsley Domestic Violence Support Services) opened in 1996 and is the only Knowsley agency whose sole focus is domestic abuse.
They pride themselves in the fact that their services are based on research with the Knowsley community as to what they wanted or needed if they were affected by domestic abuse. It is the findings of this research that has driven the development of all of The First Step’s services.
Taking their lead from the Knowsley community they have been working to increase awareness of domestic abuse, increase the provision of services and encourage initiatives aimed at the prevention of domestic abuse. The First Step have developed victim/survivor work, support work with children and young people and behavioural change work with male perpetrators. We have opened and developed Knowsley’s first women and children’s refuge, as well as a community based centre called the First Step.
