I’m a multi-award winning growthologist.
I help people like you to:
- Grow their business, social enterprise or charity and make a bigger positive difference along the way
- Win public sector tenders
- Win grant funding
As a business owner myself I know it can be hard to know exactly what support you need to achieve your dreams, especially when they include growing your venture, having time to fit in everything you want to do, and making a difference in the world. Being an owner or leader can be a lonely place.
Imagine being able to ask somebody who has helped thousands of people in similar situations – owners and leaders of organisations of all shapes, sizes and stages. That someone is me. I’m a bit like a bee – cross pollinating thinking and practical approaches that actually work!
I join the dots to spot opportunities that you may not have thought about, anticipate challenges, and suggest approaches that have worked elsewhere, ensuring that nothing gets missed.
I’ve also helped organisations like yours to win over £172m of public sector contracts and grant funding.
As well as working with clients like you, I’m also a growth expert on funded programmes like Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses, Small Business Leadership Programme and several other regional growth programmes.
The quality and impact of my work has been recognised through several awards including an OBE for Services to Social Enterprise and Women’s Enterprise, UK Top 50 Business Advisor, National Enterprise Support Champion and Maserati 100 for Mentoring and Advice.

Melanie Bryan OBE DL
Honoured with an OBE for her services to Social Enterprise and Women’s Enterprise, Melanie is a multi-award winning entrepreneur, whose accolades include UK Top 50 Business Advisor, National Enterprise Support Champion and being named as one of the Maserati 100 for mentoring and advice.
Despite experience of a huge range of companies and working environments gained in senior roles within financial institutions, the Co-operative Group and as a global management consultant; Melanie describes founding WhyNotChange in 2009 as her steepest, scariest, but most rewarding learning curve!
Since then Melanie has provided bespoke mentoring, support, training and events to help over 3500 leaders – from businesses (most industry sectors), social enterprises and charities – to take their passion and purpose and use them to achieve their business and life goals whilst making a positive difference.
Melanie is particularly skilled at spotting opportunities and solving problems, including by identifying approaches that have worked for others in similar situations and translating these into practical actions for you to consider.
Alongside her own clients Melanie supports prestigious national and regional growth programmes including the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Programme for which she has been a Growth Expert since 2011, and the Small Business Leadership Programme. An often over-looked way to grow a business is through winning public sector contracts. Melanie has helped organisations to win over £172m of grants and public sector contracts since founding WhyNotChange.
Alongside this Melanie is a popular speaker, (including Ted-X), panellist, webinar presenter and facilitator.
Passionate about giving back, Melanie serves as a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater Manchester, and has held a number of appointments including Member of the CVLS Honours Committee; Greater Manchester Poverty Commissioner; UK Female Entrepreneurship Ambassador; and mentor, charity patron and trustee. However, the title that makes Melanie smile most is Super Nana given to her by her autistic grandson (who she is carer and advocate for) – you’ll find her at weekends in sparkly wellies in the woods dinosaur and fairy hunting with Prezidente, Carmen and Zenon – despite spotting plenty, they are yet to catch one!
